Enhancing construction industry with igus® solution

In the world of heavy industries, a perpetual debate rages on - plastic versus metal. Can plastic components truly withstand the rigors of harsh, high-impact environments? Do construction machinery manufacturers place their trust in them?

For designers in sectors like agriculture and construction, the evolving landscape of construction machinery presents a revolution. This revolution necessitates a shift in perspective and innovative solutions. In these sectors where heavy-duty machinery is needed, durability and reliability are not just factors to consider; they are vital to the components are that used in the machinery.

Reducing friction

Most metallic bearings cannot do without lubricating grease, which minimizes friction at the bearing point. The grease decouples the sliding surfaces and protects them from friction and wear. The most obvious solution to these problems is lubrication-free igus® plain bearings. They are dry running, therefore, without any external lubrication.

Protection from moisture and corrosion

Metal bearings used in damp or high moisture environments have the tendency to corrode. self-lubricating polymer bearings are a greater viable option. In contrast to metallic bearings, igus plain bearings can come in many different materials to meet the most demanding of requirements that are completely corrosion resistant. igus plain bearings comes in a wide variety of materials, iglidur® materials, that can be catered to different range of applications.

Cost Saving

As mentioned above contributes to further cost savings over the lifetime of the bearings. This also means lubrication-related downtime is eliminated, which is one of the most common sources of downtime across all industries and applications. The minimal downtime in machinery means that there will be lesser time spent on servicing and maintenance. The self-lubricating properties of the plain bearings can completely save additional expenses for lubricants.

Our recent innovation is the new igutex TX3 bearing. Manufactured with the intention to withstand heavy-duty applications in the construction industry. Tested in igus laboratory to withstand up to 130 MPa. Made from high-strength fibre wound materials. The new igutex TX3, igus has now developed a material that offers an even longer service life, especially under extreme dynamic loads and where increasing and decreasing loads may occur, for example, in the hydraulic connections of excavator shovels. As with all iglidur plain bearings, igutex TX3 is self-lubricating and is completely dry running. Solid lubricants, which are integrated in the gliding layer of the fiber wound bearing, enable the best possible coefficients of friction without the need for external lubrication. Users can therefore save costs on oil, grease, and maintenance. Additionally, no lubricants are released into the environment, offering a sustainability element.
